Fog

I am one of those weird people who like fog. There are several reasons for my fascination with fog. For many people, fog brings them sadness. With my tendancy towards melancholy one would think it does me. However, that is not so.

Fog brings me peace. A good fog always takes me back to our 20 years of living in the foothills of the Smoky Mountains. Many a morning we awoke to the pasture land surrounding our farmhouse blanketed in a thick fog. Those were the days I could so poinantly feel the Presence of the Holy Spirit.

Fog brings me hope. The best fogs come in the spring. So a good fog can mean that warmer days are on the way!

Fog beckons me. It calls my heart to Scotland...a place I've never been but a place where a part of my heart will always be!

Fog is mysterious. This is the thing I like most about fog. In my over-active imagination there are whole worlds just on the other side of the fog. Just walk into the mist and I'm there! Silly, I know; but still a daydream I indulge in from time to time.

Several years ago my family met at the Grand Hotel in Pigeon Forge for Thanksgiving. There was a glassed-in heated pool. The steam from the water combined with the cold air coming off the glass made for a thick fog causing visibility in the pool to be zero. Since we were the only ones in the pool we played the best game of Marco Polo ever!

During our time in Sevierville, TN my medical sales job frequently took me over a certain bridge. This bridge spanned Douglas Lake and connected Sevier County with Dandrige. (It is important to note that this particular bridge had failed inspection...not a comforting thought!)

More mornings than not this bridge was completely shrouded in fog and could not be seen. My over-active imagination plus my knowledge that the bridge had failed inspection plus the fact that the bridge was rendered invisible by the fog...well, you get the picture. With each approach I would stop, pray, hit the gas and drive onto that bridge! (I did have the comfort of telling myself that had it collapsed in the night we would have surely seen a story on the news!)

Our walk with Christ is more often than not shrouded in a fog. We walk by faith and not by sight! Our Lord beckons us to step into the fog! There is so much waiting on the other side!

Peace. Hope. Worlds of blessing we've yet to experience! And, unlike that bridge, He will never let us down! His strong, everlasting arms are always supporting us. We need never fear that they won't be there!

Don't be afraid of the unknown...the way ahead of you that you cannot see. Jesus is there...in the mist...holding out a loving hand that is always there even when you can't see it.

When fear comes just yell your best "Marco"! He will always answer with, "Polo! Here I am my child!"

Be blessed!

Pastor Jennifer
