Sheep

Question:

Why do we take so much time, out of the service, to pray for individuals?

Answer:

I used to have sheep. I had two...a hampshire (Buttons) and a dorset (Bows). Bows was much more docile, and smaller, yet she was the leader.

Any sheep farmer will tell you this. When you feed sheep they are fed collectively unless you have lambs requiring bottle feeding or a ewe or ram that might need a special diet. (Regarding the church flock, the bottle feeding is discipling new believers and the special diet is one-on-one counseling.)

Sheep also pasture collectively. But when you give them medicine or shear them it must be done individually.

Whenever we had to give medicine Bows, being easier, received hers first. Then she always stayed close by until Buttons got hers. It was the same when we sheered them...Bows first then Buttons, with Bows hanging around for support. And if only one of them needed medicine the other was always close by, lest she feel left out.

When a Pastor (the shepherd) is praying for individuals (sheep) he is giving them medicine. The role of the rest of the flock is to be supportive. The other sheep might not need medicine that day...but they will one day.

It brings me joy when one of our sheep needs medicine and other sheep stand close by for support! It is rare, when someone is needing prayer, that at least 2 or 3 aren't standing, praying and agreeing with them! At Collinwood Church of God touching individual lives is what we are all about! We gather on Sundays to Worship, care for Others and hear the Word. (WOW...it's on the wall of our foyer!) Worship, Others, the Word...that is ALL we are here for!

GOD IS DOING GREAT THINGS at CCOG! It is through the sheep, ALL of the sheep, that He is able to accomplish His desires!

Praying that the sheep of the pasture where you worship are being both fed and given medicine. Without medicine sheep get worms. Sheep need both proper food and medicine to live a healthy life!

Baaaah
(sheep speak for Be Blessed!),
