Holy Real

Recently the comment was made to me, about a certain Christian speaker, "I like her...she's real".

This particular speaker posts pictures of her bikini clad self and pictures with her cleavage showing. She also shared a filthy joke on face book.

Now, before some of you jump on here accusing me of judging, that is not the case at all. I am simply using her behavior as an example.

Another example would be a well-known television preacher/teacher who recently read an unclean saying during his message in an attempt to be humorously "real".

What we used to call "unholy" we now call "real". Being "real" or "down-to-earth" should never mean compromising a holy lifestyle.

Jesus showed that He was "real" when, with great compassion, He reached down and picked the adulteress up out of the dirt and said, "I don't condemn you". However, He made it quite clear that her unholy lifestyle was not acceptable when He continued with, "Go and sin no more".

In their efforts to be "real" too many have forgotten that we are to be "in the world but not of it". We are to be "called out"; "separate";" a holy people".

I strive to be "real". But what that means to me is that I don't put on spiritual airs...I don't walk around with my spiritual nose in the air...I strive to be touchable. I am fully aware that I --- a Bible College graduate, Ordained minister, Worship Pastor and Pastor's wife --- AM NO GREATER in God's eyes than the worst sinner. Being real means I know where I would have been had it not been for the grace of God.

Being real means I am just a sinner saved by grace --- a "cracked pot" with weaknesses and flaws...like everyone else.
However, I musn't use the fact that I am, indeed, a "cracked pot" as an excuse to deliberately live an unholy life.

Being "real" means I know I am not perfect; but I am striving for perfection in Christ!

Being "real" doesn't mean dressing immodestly, engaging in questionable entertainment, laughing at and/or telling dirty jokes, gossiping, cussing, criticising others, saying whatever you think (speaking your mind) ...in general, looking like, acting like and talking like the world.

Being "real" means being a bright light in the darkness --- not being a part of the darkness. Being real means genuinely loving the bound and the broken without being like them.

Let's keep it real while keeping it holy.

Be blessed!

Pastor Jennifer
