Is Speeding a Sin?

Why is driving over the speed limit a sin?

Deliberately driving over the speed limit, not stopping at signs, passing on a solid yellow line, aggressive driving, etc. is sin. Plain and simple. There's no getting around it.

God gave us a command, not a suggestion, to obey the laws of the land. This command was reiterated by Paul in Romans 13:1,2. The only time God does not require us to obey civil law is when said law runs contrary to our faith and our stand for Christ.

However, the real issue is a heart issue. Breaking traffic laws exhibits impatience and self-centeredness. Ouch!

Let's go deeper. Breaking traffic laws is a sin of rebellion. When you deliberately drive over the speed limit, etc. you are saying, "I know the law...I just don't care. I'm going to do it anyway."

What does God have to say about rebellion? He likens it in seriousness to witchcraft!

"Rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft..." 1 Samuel 15:23. That is pretty serious business.

As always, I refer back to WWJD? Would Jesus say, "This law is stupid...that dumb old woman is driving too slow..." then put His foot into it, zooming past said old lady?

If Jesus were in the seat beside you would you do it?

I will never forget being aggressively tailgated and passed with a blowing of a horn only to have that individual pull into the church parking lot just ahead of me! Oops!

But, you say, I'm running late! I'm in a hurry. That can be easily resolved by leaving sooner. Get organized and get up earlier. Leave yourself time to enjoy the ride.

As you drive put on worship music or an audio Bible. It's a little difficult to exercise the sin of rebellion while you are worshipping or listening to God's Word.

Amen or oh me?

Be Blessed!
