I subbed in the gym today. It was my break time while the pre-school used the gym for play time. I walked in the bathroom and 2 little girls were playing. I won't say any names but one of them attends CCOG and her initials are A.W.🤔 One of them was making suds and blowing them.🤣 I asked her if I should tell her teacher. She said, "I'm sorry. It was an accident".  I said, " So you accidentally played in the soap?" Her answer, "Yes." Children learn early in life that to say "it was an accident" sometimes gets you off the hook. How many of us try to worm out of mistakes and even sin by saying, "It was an accident." We didn't mean to gossip...we didn't mean to lose our temper...we didn't mean to lust. True freedom comes from taking full responsibility for our actions. The devil didn't "make" us do it. The good news is that just as I had mercy on that precious little girl, Christ loves to extend mercy tow...

Work

Image
In speaking to The Church, Paul said, "WORK at living in peace with everyone and WORK at living a holy life, for those who are not holy will not see the Lord". (Hebrews 12:14)  We are also instructed, in Philippians 2:12&13 to "WORK out our own salvation". The word "work" in all of these instructions tells us that it is not easy.  It is not easy being at peace with everyone. We all have different personalities and quirks. No one is perfect. Words are going to be said that hurt our feelings. We aren't going to agree with everything that is done. However, we can disagree agreeably. When we are all Kingdom minded, instead of self-minded, being at peace with one another comes much easier. Living a holy life also takes WORK. The world we live in offers much temptation. It is easier to just "go along to get along". Living a holy life is much more than the things we don't do.  Oswald Chambers said (paraphrased) Living a holy life means havin...

Sin and Consequences

Image
If I see the foundation of my relationship with Christ as being based on sympathy rather than crucifixion I will not see my sin as the problem but rather the consequences of sin as the problem. We become so focused on consequences that we ignore the cause. We do not suffer because of the consequences of sin but because of the presence of sin. Consequences are not our enemy, sin is. Consequences are there to reveal sin not to be the result of sin (Romans 7). Far too much of our energy is used in dealing with the consequences rather than eradicating the sin. Think about it! Victory and Defeat

Image
As is so often the case, a recent conversation set my mental wheels to turning.  I was talking with a fellow minister and in the course of the conversation he referred to a defeat he and his wife had experienced. He expressed the pain they had felt as a result of that defeat. And, as is so often the case, the cause of the pain went beyond the defeat; but also to the mitigating factors involved which ultimately brought about the decision that caused the pain.  As I commiserated with him I was gently reminded by the Holy Spirit of something that is unique to Christians in relationship to this subject. If we truly believe that God has our life in His hands then at some point we must see the defeats in the same way we see the victories, as the will of God. The world does not have that advantage. The world relies upon its own wisdom, its own ability and it's own understanding.  Therefore, must continually attempt to find answers and solutions to defeat. This is seen across tho...

Eyes Up!

Image
Warning: Transparency Ahead The past week has been tough. I've felt stepped on, kicked, rejection, abandoned, overlooked and left lonely. Not by God; but by people. People I thought were my friends, people I thought were loyal and people I looked up to all let me down. We often say "just keep your eyes on Jesus" but that is sometimes very difficult to do. It is hard not to get your eyes on people when God works through people. Today God reminded me of the reason He allows people to hurt us; the reason He allows us to feel kicked, stepped on, overlooked, rejected, abandoned and left lonely. It is two-fold: 1) It is for just that --- a reminder to KEEP OUR EYES ON JESUS! 2) It is also to remind us that, though the scripture teaches us to keep our eyes on Christ, it is not a license to treat other people badly. Keeping our eyes on Jesus also means acting like Jesus! 3) The most important reason He allows us to feel all these things is so that we can share in the suff...

Are you expecting God to bless you when you are not blessing God? Are you expecting reward when you haven't obeyed? Are you asking for healing when you are or aren't doing the thing or things you need to do? Are you expecting a financial miracle when you haven't given back to God what belongs to God? Are you asking Him to forgive you while you are holding a grudge? Are you grumpy towards God but expecting Him to smile on you? Are you asking for freedom and deliverance while clutching in your fist the thing that has you bound and/or addicted? God always rewards faithfulness! God always rewards effort! He always rewards a giving, gracious spirit. God never rewards laziness, selfishness, self-destruction or unforgiveness. When we come to God with opened heart and hands He can fill our lives with blessing. But a closed, hard or rebellious heart and tight fist is something God turns from in great sorrow. You have to position yourself for blessing! Be blessed! Pastor Jennifer

Cows

Image
This morning, as is my usual habit, I was sitting on the deck having my devotion time. Adjacent to the parsonage property is a large pasture; home to several cows.  One of the mother cows was calling for her baby, loudly yet calmly. The baby, in some distress, was calling back to her. This went on for several minutes. Eventually, mama and baby were reunited and the bellowing stopped. So it is with us and Jesus. When we wander away from Him we become distressed. However, when we call out to Him, He will always answer and He will always find us. How much easier life would be if we just didn't wander away to begin with. But like that little calf, we seem to think that there's something better on the other side of the pasture. Thank God, in His great mercy and love, He always makes the extra effort to come after us.
