How to Study the Word

Image
Bible study is essential to being born-again. How can you survive without eating? How can you have a relationship with someone if you never allow them to speak?  Recently, an individual asked me, "How do you get so much out of the Bible?" She went on to say that she was ashamed to admit that she had been saved a number of years yet had no idea how to study the Word.  "How can they know, unless they are taught?" Romans 10:13 To learn anything we have to do the triple A:  Admit, Ask, Apply.  ADMIT you don't know something. For most people, that's the hard part. I am an odd one in that I have never had a hard time admitting I didn't know something...I have always been a sponge for knowledge! ASK someone who does know. This is chiefly how I learned music; by asking people who knew more than I...and I am still asking! APPLY what they tell you. So this is for that sweet sister, and anyone else who needs it. ******* How To Study the Bible For new coverts or tho...

Sheep

Image
Question: Why do we take so much time, out of the service, to pray for individuals? Answer:  I used to have sheep. I had two...a hampshire (Buttons) and a dorset (Bows). Bows was much more docile, and smaller, yet she was the leader. Any sheep farmer will tell you this. When you feed sheep they are fed collectively unless you have lambs requiring bottle feeding or a ewe or ram that might need a special diet. (Regarding the church flock, the bottle feeding is discipling new believers and the special diet is one-on-one counseling.) Sheep also pasture collectively. But when you give them medicine or shear them it must be done individually. Whenever we had to give medicine Bows, being easier, received hers first. Then she always stayed close by until Buttons got hers. It was the same when we sheered them...Bows first then Buttons, with Bows hanging around for support. And if only one of them needed medicine the other was always close by, lest she feel left out. When a Pastor ...

Aliens or Rapture?

Image
I was talking with a church member a few evenings past. She brought up the Rapture of the Church and asked if I thought it would be explained away as aliens. My answer was, "Absolutely!" The following is the emergency address made by fictional character President Thomas Whitmore, portrayed by actor Bill Pullman, in the 1996 movie Independence Day. ********** "My fellow Americans, a historic and unprecedented event has occurred. The question of whether or not we're alone in the universe has been answered. Although it's understandable that many of us feel hesitation or fear, we must attempt to reserve judgment. Panic, seen occurring all over the world, has caused undue injury and loss of life. This is not how we as Americans should react to what is one of the most significant events in the history of the world. Rest assure, we are proceeding with extreme caution. Yet we have to consider the opportunities for ourselves, our children and future generations. These o...

Yes, It's Witchcraft!

Again...long read warning. Sorry...I do try to keep things brief but the Holy Spirit won't always let me. ****** As a Pastor, one of my assignments and responsibilities is to correct and guide, always in love. I was recently asked a sincere question which prompted this answer. There are only two powers in the universe. God and Satan. If it is not of God, it is of Satan. The little "harmless" things you see on facebook are not so harmless. They are superstition at best and at worst, witchcraft. October will be upon us before we can blink, bringing with it a whole host of things that dabble in the dark side. If you are under my spiritual influence, in any way, I admonish to stop playing with that mess! It may seem like harmless fun but it has the potential to open portals into your life; portals that demons can slip through. Here's some examples of what I am referring to: On facebook: *Insert "amen" and you will be blessed (mixing superstition with faith) ...

Somebody's Watching

Image
A few days ago, I wrote and posted about the Walls of Jericho. Some of you saw it. If not, you need to. It will encourage you! In that writing I mentioned "going before and blowing the trumpet" on behalf of someone else. Later on, I was thinking (and I NEVER said it out loud) that if I had a Shofar, I would go to the church to pray and blow the Shofar. Again, I NEVER said this aloud. Today, I opened Amazon and the first thing I saw was something I "might be interested in". Yep...a Shofar! For those who don't know, a Shofar is a trumpet of sorts made out of a ram's horn used for various applications by the Hebrews. Many Christians have adopted the practice as it is deeply moving to hear a ram's horn sounded. One of 4 things has happened: 1 - AI saw the post then auto researched what the trumpets in the story might have looked like then auto offered me this product, 2 - AI really can read minds, 3 - we really do have data collecting and sending devices...

David didn't kill Goliath on the battlefield. He killed him long before he encountered him. He killed him in the sheep pasture as he spent time alone with God - praying, listening to the voice of the Father and worshipping! It was because he had intentionally developed his relationship with God that he had the confidence to step onto that battlefield saying, "You come to me with spear and sword, but I come to you in THE NAME OF THE LORD!" Many people want to invoke the name of Jesus over their circumstances when they don't really even know Jesus. They are quick to ask for prayer when they face a difficulty, but they haven't spent their own time in prayer. Asking a complete stranger for help is called "begging". Wouldn't we all rather get help from a trusted friend? God, in His great mercy, sometimes responds to begging. But the old adage "beggars will be beggars" is true. Without a complete lifestyle change beggars just go back to begging. ...
